Taking Juno for her walk this afternoon she was seen to limp . Her walk was cut short and we slowly walked home and she seemed to be fine. She has had a good play in the garden this evening and been happily running around with no problems. So fingers (and toes) are firmly crossed that there is no inflammation in her elbow and she only trod on a stone which mad her hop (yep, there's lots of stones in front of the house, down the drive and along the road). Must not be neurotic, must take deep breaths and lower blood pressure. MUST NOT PANIC!!
Don't panic. Just walk her up and down and objectively assess whether she is limping before her next walk. If she is, cut down the time and build it back up. I had to do this several times during Charlie's last recovery. Sometimes the muscles just need a bit of time to catch up....
Thanks Julie. She seems fine now. It's had to tell sometimes whether she is limping or not as she usually starts with what appears as a limp but is due to her dysplasia. I'll keep a close eye on her for the next few days though
Argh, hope everything is OK. it's like when you hear a strange noise from your car and start getting paranoid about every single normal noise - does it normally sound like that?! What was that?! Except with something you love and care for a lot more than a hunk of metal. Everything crossed it was nothing.
Thanks everyone. We've just been for our 20 minute pre-lunch walk and everything seems to be fine (still got fingers crossed) and no limp apparent. Juno is now having a pre-lunch snooze . I'm becoming more convinced that it was actually some stones she trod on as I had seen he tread on one on our way down the drive to go out for our walk. On the otherhand, perhaps I'd allowed her too much running around in the garden with retrieves - no running after balls or dummies but going to find them after they have been placed. Juno is finding it a little difficult to be controlled and not going running as I throw balls etc. but we're gradually getting there (a finger loosely in her collar works wonders to keep her in place). Plan is to take her to our local waterfalls for her walk this afternoon so hoping she will be have to have a splash around, have a run around, and most of all not limp
Well, a very pleasant walk this afternoon. Juno had her nose firmly clamped to the ground following a scent and had great fun trotting around along the path, through the bushes and around the copes. The level of the stream flowing down from the falls was higher than expected so Juno not only had a good splash around but also managed a short swim after twigs. She was straight in the water with no hesitation and had great fun. She started getting a bit hyper so popped her back on her lead and had another walk around before driving home. This evening on our walk around the garden Allstate well with Juno carrying her Kong Stix and she was having fun but then absolutely looney running from end of the garden to the other (approx. 150 metres) and totally ignoring us and totally failed to respond to us or her name. Rather than totally ruin her recall I said to ignore her which at least brought her running to a stop and then we walked back to the house. En route at the back of the house Juno did a sit when asked with no problems although I did slip her lead on. She stopped and sat at the front door and waited to come in and then sat for her lead and collar to be taken off and then went to her bed as asked. So, grateful on thoughts with her OTT running around and 'deafness'. Is it related to her convalescence and months of lead walking and just enjoying her freedom bit too much?
