Just need a little rant really, three times bruno has been to the vets now, for his crying and loss of apetite and all times his been given the same medication which has had nil affect after the prescibed dosage has been used. Other than the fact of the price of this, its the fact his not getting any better. After telling them this! Argh. This is the second vet aswell I just dont know what to do!

Go back demand they do tests. I would although I'm not sure what tests does he have any other symptoms ? I guess full bloods would show up any problems. If he's being given antibiotics they must be assuming an infection which would show up in a blood test as would a other things which could cause loss of appetite. If your not happy tell them. Obviously bloods will cost but the results will either tell you if something is wrong or not. My dogs had a UTI when they were pups. A similar thing happened to us they were given antibiotics which seemed to clear it until the course had ended. This happened three times then they took urine samples which showed they had ecoli in their bladder. Ecoli needs a 6 week course of antibiotics to clear it which was why the 7 day course they kept being given didn't work. It could be Bruno has an infection that needs a long continuous course of antibiotics to clear it but they won't know with out tests.

Hope it gets sorted soon and Bruno feels better. :)

Vets do vary....there are some really great vets and some not so great vets. When Charlie was a puppy I was really unhappy with the vague treatment he was getting for troublesome ears, and the vet was quite off hand with me when I really pushed for an answer and to understand what the strategy was for getting to a solution (after months and months of ineffective treatment). In the end, I asked to be referred to a specialist which took the vet a bit by surprise, I think. I got to see a great dermatologist that prescribed effective treatment and cleared things up.

So, I'd say if you are not getting good answers, consider a change of vet or start being a bit pushy. I'm afraid I'm the pushy type...but I do think it means my dog gets good care.

Im going to let this round of antibiotics run it's course and see what happens, if nothing changes i will demand blood tests to be done, which they said would be there next step, but why not do it now after already prescribing him 2 rounds previously! Argh.

I asked the same question of my vet when they eventually took sterile urine samples. Their answer was they treat as if it's a simple infection first as the tests are expensive. I pointed out because they hadn't done the tests it had cost me a lot more, my dogs condition had deteriorated and maybe they should offer the test as an option and let people decide if they want to pay for the test straight away or not.

I'm not sure but Bruno would probably have to finish the antibiotics first anyway before they could do bloods or it could affect the results. That's what happened with the urine tests anyway.
