I have a 20 month gun lab, she is incredibly responsive and obedient. During the day she lets me know she needs to go out to the toilet and never messes in the house. During the night is a different story. Every morning I get up to poo and wee. We let her out late at night before we go to bed and we get up at 6.30 every day to let her out. How can I stop this behaviour? My husband is at the end of his tether and doesn't want to carry on like this. Any advice???
Maybe try caging her during the night? Most dogs won't do their "business" where they sleep so she should hold till she is let out. When does she have her last meal?
So sorry to hear that. Definitely crating would help in this regard. Would have to be a big enough crate so she can stand up in and stretch out in. As BeataK says, they will not mess where they sleep. If you take her out after her supper and before you go to bed, there is no reason (unless she has something physically wrong with hert) she cannot hold her wee or poo for that amount of time. A crate has been wonderful for me and Cooper (15 months old). He never messed in the crate. He has been de-crated since February of this year and has the run of the entire family room, which is very large, and he has only had two accidents since then. Both were my fault as I was taking him out before going to bed but wasn't spending enough time for him to do "both" and he coulld not hold on until morning. Also, are you sure she is doing both wee and poo when she goes out at night? Sometimes they go out but just sniff around and do nothing....you have to go out with her to make sure. Good luck.
