We have had a couple of lovely walks over the weekend. Sadly, Willow has woken up this morning with a very gummy eye. I've bathed it a couple of times, but it's very watery and keeps getting gummy again. I am guessing, combined with the reverse sneezing I mentioned a few days ago, this is down to hay fever. Poor girl. We're off to the vet tomorrow anyway to pick up some Advantix, so I'll have a word with him while I'm there and see if he has something for her. I know they say Piriton is safe for dogs, but I'd like his advice on dosage or if he recommends anything else.

Ah you knew something was afoot didn't you? What a shame, but other members that have similar allergies report really quick responses to the Meds. Dex had conjunctivitis once and I bathed it with cooled boiled water until I got him to the vet.The sand can be an irritant for him too so under the vets advice I give him a little flush with tears au naturelle ( a saline solution from the pharmacy) when we've had a blowy walk.....At least with pollen this will only be seasonal so it's only going to be shor term Meds she will be on for it ,feel better Willow, gunky eyes aren't fun x

Oh, poor girl. Obi sympathises as he has seasonal allergies too. In his case a short course of steroid/antihistamine tablets (Prednisolone...I think I spelled it right) works wonders when it gets bad, and plain antihistamines (human Zyrtec, two tablets a day) in between.

Well, the vet doesn't think it's hay fever. I was just going to go and pick up some antihistamine for her, but I decided that I would rather the vet saw her, so popped her in this evening. He put some orange gunk in her eye to check for an ulcer, and then some fluorescent green gunk to have a closer look. He didn't think it was, because he said she had a slight inflammation in the other eye, too.

Anyway, she was clear for ulcers, but he thinks it's an infection, so she's on a course of antibiotic drops in both eyes for the next week, along with regular cleaning. We need to watch out in Shadow, too, because it could be contagious.

So, fingers crossed it will clear up quickly. Poor girl, it's always her that's suffering :(

After a couple of applications, the eye is a lot less red already. She's not the biggest fan of the drops, but she is pretty good and I think it soothes as soon as it goes in, so she sits as quietly as she can.

Oh poor girl, and Juno says she's very brave for being so good with the eye drops. Fingers crossed that it clears quickly and that Shadow doesn't show any symptoms.
