For those of you that don't know, my little girl, Willow, had a sore eye last week. It was weeping a lot and was very red. I thought it was probably hayfever, but took her to the vet to see, and it turned out she had an eye infection. She was put on a course of twice daily rinsing with a sterile saline solution and three lots of drops a day. Well, to update, she has been a complete and utter star. She is not one to put up with things she doesn't like. When she ripped her claw out, she would shy away every time I got the cleaning solution out. When I get her harness out, she runs away because she hates it. At first, when I got the clippers out (even after loads of desensitisation), she would shy away as soon as they came out. She's smart and very quickly learns the processes around things she doesn't like.

Yet, she seems to understand that the cleaning and the drops help. When we get them out, she wags her tail and jumps up onto the sofa, where we find it easiest to apply them. She holds her head as still as she can, although she squints just like you and I would when applying drops, she is clearly trying her best to hold her eyes open.

The absolute best thing is that, once the drops are in, she gets to have some stinky dried tripe. Yummers.

And now, the vet has prescribed a second lot of drops, anti-inflammatories, which have to be put in fifteen minutes after the first lot. Which means, TWO lots of tripe treats! Even better!

Shadow thinks all his birthdays have come at once, because he gets tripe just like his sis for doing nothing. Although, one of his eyes has been a bit red the last couple of days, so the vet suggested we keep it cleaned with the saline, twice daily, and to put the drops in if it gets worse. It turns out our little man can keep his eye closed tighter than a duck's whatsits when the mood strikes :D

Well done Willow! But I hope it all clears up quickly, I don't like hearing about eye trouble after Millie's ulcer....

There's no ulcer; the vet checked it extensively on both the first and second appointments. It's a million times better than when we first took her, and you can't even see the red unless you pull the lid right down now. She doesn't seem irritated by it, but she does seem to appreciate the soothing drops, even in her other eye, which has never shown any signs of redness :)

Oh, and to report on her general state of mind at the vet....

After her spay, she was very stressed on her follow-up appointments. She weed on the floor a couple of times and was generally giving off stress signals the whole time she was there. However, on these last two appointments, she has been more interested in seeing Cristina, the vet. nurse than anything. She LOVES Cristina! Probably because Cristina gives her treats for doing absolutely nothing right. :D

This time, there was a young choccy Lab in the (small) waiting room with us. We had lots of waggy tails, but her owner obviously wanted to keep her away from ours, so we sat apart. Willow really (really really) wanted to say hi, and the waiting room is so small, we couldn't get far enough apart that she couldn't reach, but I managed to keep her distracted and she settled down, even within easy reach. She even gave me the fastest "down" I've ever had from her. I was super pleased with how she was. She is still super submissive to Jordi (the vet), and rolls on her back when she sees him, but he gets on the floor and gives her cuddles and biscuits and so she is getting a bit happier each time. Then she gets to see Cristina again and all is good with the world.

Cristina is super hot, by the way. Hubby really doesn't mind going to the vet, either ;)

    Aw, me too :)

I can't believe how coherent those posts are - we had a belated anniversary meal last night, and I had rather too much to drink. It's quite surprising to come on here and see posts I don't remember writing :D

Hah, I've been to the gym for a weights session, done an hour on the cross trainer at home and am about to take the pups on their evening walk. In addition to a good day's work. Naps are for babies ;)
