So there we were, OH, Poppy and me, sitting on the lawn watching the dragonflies and a baby grass snake hunting around the pond... When Pops ran over to OH, shaking and crying and rubbing her face... There was a wasp's nest in the lawn and the poor love had been stung! I cooled her poor little muzzle and ear with a packet of frozen peas, and we spent the rest of the afternoon wondering what to do about the wasp's nest, since any form of poison was obviously out of the question. (Other Half was all for smoking them out with some sailing flares he had; I actually had to FORBID this! ). In the end, an upturned bottle of petrol down the hole seemed to do the trick, today there were only a few groggy wasps around, easily dealt with.

Poor little Poppy's mouth and ear swelled up... She felt very sorry for herself, but enjoyed all the extra attention. I must say, I was very touched that her first instinct on being stung was not to run away, but to run to us for help.

Note: swollen mouth did not stop her wolfing her dinner! ;D

Ah I bet she got a shock and you got a fright .Glad she was ok but just shows you there can be a nasty reaction even with swift intervention.

All better when the dinner goes down ;)

Glad you vetoed the sailing flares....the next shock and fright would have been for your neighbours!

Poor poppy! Glad to hear all is ok - and the wasps are gone. I suppose it could have been worse, if it had been her eye (shudder...). Eating dinner usually means the world is returning to normal for them!

Oh poor little love , nasty indeed x
My old girl got stung by a bee when she was young and suffered anaphalictic shock, it was the scariest thing to see, she was in the Vets overnight on fluids . Its awful that they dont understand the dangers , hope Poppy is alright now :(

Thanks all - she is fine today, though yesterday afternoon she refused to sit on the lawn and insisted on sitting on my lap in the garden instead!!! ::) happily chewing a bone out there this morning though, so hopefully panic over, and just a healthy residual respect for wasps and bees!

Back in the day, Bones stepped right into a wasps nest once, and got stung around 50 times... Very nasty, but he recovered fine. Always hated wasps after that, though! :)
