For a few days now Pongo has been scratching at his neck (both sides, near the front, under his collar). The skin is beginning to look a bit pink and I don't want it to turn into a sore. I don't think he has fleas, he is up to date with his flea treatment (Stronghold). I'm assuming it's an insect bite of some sort from the garden, and that it will go away, but I'd rather he didn't scratch so much in the meantime.
Can I use human insect bite cream on him? Or dilute hibiscrub? Or something else? I don't really want to drag him over to the vet if there is some simple home remedy I can use.
    Any ideas?

I would leave his collar off whilst at home for a few days and yes, bathe with dilute Hibiscrub where the area looks sore. It might have started as something small, but the collar is probably irritating it and making it worse.

Better, I think..... thanks! I've kept his collar off and bathed his neck with hibiscrub (he lies on his back with his throat stretched out for me to do it...it must feel nice and cool I think!). Still scratching a bit, but his skin looks healthier and not so inflamed.
He sends licks to Harley and her lovely tail.
