Hi, first post here, hope its Ok to post with photos like this (not very nice I'm afraid). Our 9 year old black lab has a small red'ish lump on her side with a black centre. Have sent a picture to the vet, who as usual just said come in. Before I go and spend £60 to be told its nothing to worry about, is anyone able to offer any advice on what this might be. Many thanks, Mark.

Oh, that looks nasty! I would definitely be taking her to the vet. Someone else may pop along to say they've seen similar on their labs.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you stay around and let us know how it goes.

That would have me going to the vet too. It could be nothing, but it looks a bit unusual.

Let us know how things go at the vet :)

I would be straight to the vet, specially if I see something like that on an older lab.

Good luck and hope it turns out to be nothing :)

Yes, I know what you mean regarding more money but I have come to the conclusion that you just have to do it. I am just deciding whether or not to call the vet as my dog may well have a grass seed up her nose ... see you on the other side and good luck! :)

Hi Mark, and welcome to the forum.

My old boy got something like that on his foot, but I can't remember what it was called... It cleared up, but definitely needed vet attention and medication. Good luck with the vet, let us know how you get on, and tell us more about your dog. :)

    Hi mark.

It looks similar to an abscess my old lab had caused by a puncture wound. Could she have been bitten by another dog recently ? He also had a fatty cyst that got infected and burst in the middle. I'm telling you this because although it doesn't look good it doesn't necessarily mean it's something bad but whatever it is it does need a vet. Keep us posted fingers crossed. :)

The vet didn't know for sure what it was, they thought possibly a wound left over from a tick or possibly a wart. They gave us some ointment to apply for a few days. It has reduced down a bit, so expect its not much to worry about. Thanks for the help.

I'm glad the vet didn't think it was anything to worry about and it's starting to improve great news.
