My Cooper....almost 15 months....has had the runs for three days now and I have him on chicken and rice.....how long can you feed him this diet without him becoming constipated (rice)? He enjoys the meal itself but dont know how nutritious it is, either. Vet put him on two antibiotics and anti-inflammatory....he is getting to be more like himself. Has not had a bowel movement this morning....that's why I am concerned about the binding of the rice. Thanks for any info you can give me.....vet said to not feed him any kibble until his bowel movement is normal.

You could call the vet back to check. You can also get the special kibble for very upset tums from the vet. Beyond that I don't know.

He shouldn't go from being runny to constipated with no normal movements in between. It's certainly not a long-term solution, but a couple of days won't hurt. Better that than losing everything in diarrhoea. I would give the vet a call if you're worried about him, but if he seems fine in himself, I'm sure he'll "go" in his own time :)

When Harley was younger she was on a rice and chicken diet for a few weeks. She was prone to dippy tummies and was the only thing that would settle it until we found a food she could eat with no problems. My vet said it was ok for a few weeks if needed, but not a long term solution.

Thanks, ALL. He went this morning at 7:30 and not since so at least the runs have been halted. He seems to be himself this afternoon.....walked him a couple of times and played ball a couple of times. I am sure he is going to be fine.....went to vets twice in three days! Hopefully, that is over!
