We've given in! We thought we could train our puppy on our own, but now at 11 months, he is getting to be a bit like a rowdy teenager. He is fine around the house, but out on a walk when off the lead, if he sees another dog within about 2 miles range he is off to play. And nothing will get him back.
So it's off to dog training classes tonight. There should be plenty of other dogs there so maybe he will get bored of chasing them when out on walks.
    Wish us luck!

I feel your pain, we had exactly the same problem. Training with other dogs around is definitely a good thing to do. Wishing you all the luck in the world!!

If it makes you feel any better Riley still loves to meet other dogs but he's much, MUCH better and we keep working on his recall with other dogs around :)

It's not a failure,it's a responsible thing to do and I bet you will really enjoy it ;D

Dex is nearly 10 months and I lose him when we are outside my front garden.Ive signed up for a puppy class today ( that doesnt start until September :()so we can work around other dogs.he listens to me in the front garden and ignores dogs and people as they walk on by.then we literally cross the road to the park, and all those same people and dogs make him deaf!he's fine in an empty park too,but that's not very realistic, nor much fun ;)let us know how you get on,would be really interested to hear ,good luck

I'm sure you and your pup will both enjoy the classes. And you may well meet new friends through it, too - both of you!

very best of luck......we change our routes often, ....what we are finding is if we walk on the pathways in the woods or the canal path ,.... jasper will say hello to other dogs, within a short distance from us :) when we take him on the open fields if another dog comes on the fields that we have not spotted he will run off to play approx 100 mtr away from us.....now we are working on the recall, we are doing off lead pathways....leaving out the open fields for now ...............hope it all goes well for you both :)

.We did it. We survived our first dog training lesson. Not only did we survive it, we loved it. It was great to be in a room full of like minded people with one common goal, to train their dogs into calm, reliable ``citizens``.
We have enrolled on the Bronze award class which is an 8 week course with an assessment at the end. If we pass we will move onto Silver. If not, we will have another go at Bronze.
We really feel like we achieved something, even after just 1 lesson. We can't wait until next Tuesday to have another go.
If you are thinking about this, go for it. It's great fun and everyone is very friendly.
    Cheers, Chris.

Glad you enjoyed your class. I used to take Charlie but he really didn't cope too well so consequently neither did I. A rescue dog thing I think  Helen x
