Hi all, I've been a bit busy so not been on for a while, hollie is now nearly 13 months weighs 23.6kg and is an absolute dream to own :) we now have Cooper 10 weeks 6.7kg and is turning out to be just as good as his big sister :) he has learnt his name, to sit in 2 days and hasn't had an accident in the house today and he is clean in his cage overnight (7hours).

How 'rough' can they play together???

    hope you are all we

Hello hello, lovely to hear from you ,especially when are sharing such exciting news! Welcome to Cooper,he sounds a great pup, what colour is he?
Rough play.....hmmm I'm not the best to offer advice on this,I've only got experience of Dexter playing with peers and older dogs ,he hasn't been around puppies .Hollie is still only a youngster herself so I reckon it can get a bit hectic can't it? When you get a min, let's see Cooper ...and of course the lovely Hollie x

Hello Cooper, thank you for sharing lovely news. Yes how rough can they play! I'm always amazed at the teeth showing. Last week on one of our trips to the park we arrived at the same time as three other owners with labs. What fun we had, one big Labrador party. The are the best. Xx

Welcome Cooper! I can't comment on an older dog with a young puppy, but I can tell you that my two play rough! A lot of snarling and snapping, rolling each other over etc. There are plenty of signals you can watch out for to make sure it's just good fun - my two sneeze a lot, which is a signal to each other it's just play. They also have soft eyes and ears, with waggy tails. If you see the play bow, that's a big sign, but my two don't do that much at all. In real play, they take it in turns being the winner and loser, so Hollie should be spending plenty of time being "killed" as well as Cooper. Obviously, if Cooper keeps going back for more, he's enjoying it! If the pup is looking overly submissive, it's probably time to break it up. You will probably see one of them have a shake at the end - this signals to the other one that playtime is over - although it may start again less than a minute later! :D

I also notice that they will immediately stop playing when distracted by something... it's like, "GRRRR, I want to KEEEELLLL YOU.... oh! A butterfly!" :D

Over time, they'll start coming up with behaviours to entice each other to play. Willow will stare intently at Shadow, or go and grab a toy and wave it in his face. Shadow just walks up to her and bounces, with the odd little yap if she tries to ignore him.

Gotta love two Labs playing together :)
