Is it wrong to be anxious when hubby takes the dog out on his own?

I'm tipsy. My excuse, my husband decided to take Cupar to a vintage lorry rally. Without me. " you said he needs socialised " says he. No argument there. He loves Cupar. But OMG I feel like it was the first time he took one of OUR children out on his own, without me .

Cassie and I got some one to one time, which was really lovely. We walked to the river and she got a swim and then home and a bone to munch on. I made the dinner. Duck breast and plum sauce. It's a new recipe I was trying out. It contained a glass of wine. A lovely shiraz I purchased earlier in the week. I'm afraid I had a glass of it, just to make sure it wasn't off or anything. I did push the boat out and use one of my beautiful crystal glasses.( does that make a difference?)I even phoned him to see when he would be home for dinner. I was only phoning to check up on Cupar. Oh dear! I can't believe I'm behaving this way. I was sooooo worried that he would let him off the lead, he would drop the lead, Cupar would escape somehow.

My boy had a great time according to my OH. He never noticed the noise, he paid no attention to all the lorries, apart from peeing on the wheels. Oops! He loved meeting all these new people and everyone loved Cupar. He was so laid back about it all, he even lay down at one point, I was informed.

So all my worrying for nothing. Cupar got to travel in the front seat of the van( strapped in of course) and watch the world go by and my husband seemed to love every minute of it.

So I'm now left a bit tipsy and wondering what I was fretting about.

Never mind the duck was delicious and the wine is going down a treat. Cheers.

I feel the same when I leave the puppy with OH - I keep saying 'remember she needs watching for wees and for chewing and to keep her safe' etc etc. I just don't think he has the same level of vigilance as I do!!

    :)

No, it's ok to be anxious but sometimes I wish I had someone to share the worries with so I think you are lucky (but I do understand ;))

I don't worry about Charlie's welfare - but I worry about his training when he is left alone with my OH or my Dad. My OH lets Charlie pull on his lead, jump around other dogs, and gives him attention when he whines. My Dad wrestles on the floor with Charlie, allows him to dig big holes in the garden and feeds him kgs of treats....

    Charlie loves it.

For me the key is exactly what Boogie said "he doesn't have the same level of vigilance as I do"

OH was given strict instructions before he left. Cupar came back in one piece, so he may be allowed to take him on his own again.

I really have been working on loose lead and walking to heel. So far he doesn't seem any worse.

My OH is self employed and has very little time to do anything at home, never mind walk the dogs.

Next week he's taking a tractor to a vintage tractor show. So the whole family is going to that. Which will include Cupar. Can't wait, I'm not interested in new tractors, never mind vintage ones, but Cupar needs to go to as many different places as possible and this is an opportunity for that.

Brilliant topic I thought I was the only one who did this, so glad to see it's normal. Hubby took Mabel out today and she's fine. I did warn him a five minute walk means just that. Run the route passed me first

Mine wasn't allowed to do the 5 minute walks by himself even though that was just round the garden - unless it was raining

I see this is a "Women only thread". :D Now look here! Us chaps also worry about our dogs just as much as you do.

I too absolutely feel uneasy when anyone else including OH takes Lady out. I think it's just a natural reaction.

Well I have hurt my back, and hubby has broken his leg, so everyone is helping out atm with the dogs, chickens etc... My wonderful stepdad takes the two out with his dog...to give me a rest today. He takes them out at 5.30am...tries to take them out quietly to give me a lie in. I am awake obviously...by 7.30am he had not good back and I had practically chewed my nails to the quick!:eek:

David , as Julie said, it is coincidence that all OH are male. Only I assume most posters are female.

I had thought about addressing this point earlier as I used the term "hubby" in the title.

I'm all for equal rights . So in fairness I shall address hubby as OH.

    hi
i have been admitted to hospital a lot as emergency over the last few years and I'm so worried about my dogs when my husband looks after them. These days I'm just happy that they all look fed and happy and alive when i get back. I'm lucky my friend comes to "help" him walk the dogs when I'm an inpatient. Shes really there to watch that he doesn't do anything to weird with them. The stories she tells me are so funny he has no common sense about dogs. My husband never walks the dogs unsupervised and he never comes with me if he can help it. He's so funny I can see my dogs plotting to run circles round him. He's under strict instructions never ever ever to let migde off her lead. I'm sure they trick him into them feeding more too.
Its lovely that you are all going out together any kind of show seems to be great for bring a dog on socially. Most people there seem to love dogs and understand them. I go to a lot over the summer and went to a 2nd world war show last year. I went to see the tanks too. I love tanks. All my dogs had a great time and were given treats by men dressed as german tank troops. That was very strange, but they loved it and because of the big military hats they are pretty bomb proof when they see people with big head gear now.

    hope you have fun
