Oh the poor lad ,so sorry it's got into ,such a mess,My Mum's setter had a bacterial infection on his paw earlier this year and they had a long trek getting it healed..mainly due to unsupervised licking to be honest The boot looks amazing...really neat and stylish and Obi looks very proud wearing it,in fact he looks almost impatient to get it on in one pic x
You have so got to go into boot production.... How about Gore-tex? I'm not quite convinced it is as breathable and waterproof as claimed, but it's pretty good....
Yes, definitely a good thought - I've considered gore-tex. Even as a layer sandwiched between two layers of sole to add waterproofing. Need an old gore-tex raincoat I can cut up The boot making has been fun (after some initial frustrations sewing a new material). Can't wait till my leather arrives!!
Looking good, Obi! Lucky you having a creative mum. Best I could do was a plastic bag. Heh. Definitely think about keeping the design files for those of us who haven't got a clue....
So I thought I should give a postscript to all this.... The leather arrived and I started making prototype boots, and then before I settled on a design Obi's foot was better and he didn't need a boot... So boot production stalled, and the dining table has been covered in sewing gear and leather scraps for the past two weeks. I bit the bullet and tonight finished off the most promising model, which is like the neoprene ballet boot, but deerskin and cow suede. I've done it so all seams are on the outside. The pics are of Obi's right foot (the one that was not sore) because he is pretty sick of people playing about with his left foot. The 'upper' part is deerskin, and it's very soft and nice The back and top strap are thicker cow suede, also soft but thicker and not as pliable. The suede is a good material - it doesn't fray, it breathes, it's pretty durable, it shapes to the foot and it's soft. Definitely a winner in those respects. You could even make the whole thing out of the deerskin, which would be very soft and definitely fine for trips out into the garden. The only negative about it is that it grabs a bit to fur when you put the foot in, which is why I have a tag on the front and the top to help manipulate it onto the foot. A silk lining would solve that minor issue though and make the inside a bit slipperier (but still soft and breathable).
Wow I love those boots. There is definitely a market for this in the UK - handmade deerskin boots would sell out big time I reckon.
Sorry, so carried away with the designer boot I forgot to wish Obi a speedy recovery - speedy recovery Obi!
