Most of Sams training has been based on reward, in his case a throw of the dummy or ball is his best ever reward in the world . He now swims really well, hardly a ripple of water and just his head out, just loving water retrieves , brilliant in this hot weather Well , the new little one also loves water, a strong swimmer although still on a very long line as its only a week but someone in her previous life encouraged her to dive for stones which , whilst quite amazing to watch , isnt something I want her to do as she already has two broken tooth tips as a consequence . So I got some small size tennis balls and now have the amusing spectacle of watching Sam leap in and head off for his ball whilst the small one heads in the opposite direction for hers, both returning together , Sam in front and Millie desperately trying to catch up at the rear ;D Due to this , she has quickly developed a passion for her ball, so am using it as a training tool, for recall and sit/stay , she is responding really well, our little Terrier Retriever ;D
Re: Well I never !! She dives under the water to get the stones??!! Duck x terrier! Like you say not something you'd want to encourage, but pretty amazing to see I'd bet. How about one of those little dumb bell things that float? Bet she'd love that!! Can't remember where I saw them now. I can see Sam and Millie together in my minds eye, when you describe their trips out, it's gorgeous.
Re: Well I never !! Julie , this is a complete technophobe you are talking to ;D It took me about a year to figure out photos, but I will try and get some pics of them swimming this evening, looks hilarious, given the size difference ;D

Re: Well I never !! I wasnt hanging around , I love cows but when they have calves , you have to be so careful . I reckoned she might not appreciate two dogs swimming round her ;D ;D
