Don't forget to scream! I forget every time what total crocodiles these pups are! My Tatze (2 years old now) was the worst of mine - her crocapup phase lasted months! Gypsy was a 'snap and run' pup. Twiglet goes for the ankles! One Guide Dog puppy walker came to class with his arms totally shredded - he had one of the worst biters ever! Of course, she grew up to be a gentle, lovely, sensible girl Tell your crocapup stories here to remind new puppy owners that it's totally normal! Here is Tatze about to pounce!
When Murphy was a puppy he went for feet and ankles. My husband used to perch on the stairs in the evening rather than sit on the sofa to save his feet! A new dog walker came round to meet us and she commented on how Charlie seemed almost afraid of Murphy the way he was hiding on the stairs and Charlie said no his teeth are just bloomin' sharp and he likes my feet! It was rather amusing. I also have a number of cardigans with holes in the sleeves from him lol
Willow went through the traditional crocopup stage, although nowhere near as bad as some I've heard of. We looked like self harmers at that time but she was done by the time Shadow arrived when they were 14 weeks. Here she is in action. We never had it at all with Shadow, as he came to us later on and he'd obviously worked through it with his litter mates.
. Within 2 days of Mabel's arrival she had ripped holes in 5 jumpers. I love my clothes favourite shops being Boden and Crew Clothing. So off I went to the local supermarket to buy a puppy uniform which consisted of leggings and big jumpers. . We also had a rather lovely rocking chair with took a right chewing it's now in the spare bedroom and every time I see it I smile those puppy days have flow by. She is does chew at 8 months. She can't resist the odd skirting board. Love her to bits.
Lucky me that Juno was never a crocopup , and she has never chewed anything in the house even though she loves to steal shoes and slippers
my last pup was more of a rabid raptor. He had colitis as a pup and had tummy ache loads and was always hungry and then on steriods and I think contributed to his biteyness. The whole litter was very mouthy though. He shreded my arms and hands for ages and I was so brusied I looked like i had been fighting off an attacker. I do have health problems which mean I bruise and bleed a lot so it did look terrible and I did wonder if it would ever end, it did though My old dog was bad but soon lost it, the middle dog just didn't do it but this one was something else. He just got so excited that he could not keep his teeth to himself. He's much better now and its not really a problem I just have too watch he doesn't get too excited and remind him no teeth. I really felt so sorry for him though he had such a rough first 12 months he got so thin and ill that I did wonder if he had something seriously wrong. He really is one of the most loving gentle cuddly labs I've every had. He loves everyone especially women. My old dog had a thing about ripping my clothes off just the tops never the trousers. He just used to rip my clothes to pieces. I got one jumper which has huge rents in it but have kept it for sentimental reasons. He also tried to teeth on a radiator but i left the chew marks because they make me smile . I'm just calm and consitant which is so hard about it and in the end it does stop. Its one of the things I had forgotten about when i got Rory boy did he wake me up. S
Hands, arms, feet, ankles, any dangling item of clothing - all were fair game here for what felt like months
I think it's a human/dog joint mad evolution thing - humans are programmed to forget the bad bits of having a puppy. I now don't think Charlie was all that bad. But if I think really, really hard, I remember buying several extra long sleeve shirts for work because my forearms looked like I was using illegal substances...
Of course, the best idea is to have a big dog with thick fur in the house! I have no war wounds (so far) this time round! (Tatze cleverly keeps Twiglet off her soft bits, by pushing her off with her paws, whilst allowing her to bite where it doesn't hurt)
I can remember having small cuts over my hands and arms, but I think I was lucky as it only lasted about 3-4 weeks. Until she was 1 she never even destroyed any of her toys. When she turned 1 she took to de stuffing all her teddies!! Luckily this has stopped in the past few months. Only Lambie, raffie, hippo and turtle escaped unscathed
I don't want to speak too soon, but I am thinking we MAY have gone through the worst of it at 15 weeks now .... is that possible? Maui had REALLY peaked I think at 13/14 weeks and both my husband and I had cuts all over our arms and hands! She never really did destroy any of her toys though. However I would describe Maui as a 'chewer' and we've given her a lot of things to chew on. We just returned from a visit with my daughter and her family and their two Chocolate Labs. They were here at our house over the 4th and it was WILD!! The older one, Sierra is 10 and let Maui know she wasn't interested in playing. Took Maui a while over the 4th to 'get that', but she really never bothered her while we were visiting this past week. The two year old, Cocoa, however was another story!! They ran and ran, played and played and generally were WILD!! We separated many times, but the 'time outs' in the respective crates went well ... as did crating in the bedroom we were sleeping in! That was a God Send as we were having trouble with that at home before we left! I think the timing was perfect and I suspect there are many baby teeth left in Florida!! We got home last night and she pretty much settled down and when it was time for bed, went right into the crate in our room for the night with no issues! We've had a delightful morning ... up, outside for her business, in and fed, a small amount of play and then a walk .... and now she's resting quietly on the floor! She even let me change my clothes for the walk without issues. Before we left that was a huge challenge with her biting and jumping! Today she actually sat and waited! I'm hoping it's not just exhaustion from the trip and she'll start up all over again ... but for now, I'm enjoying the 'calm'!! Here she is with Cocoa in FL. The first two are Maui and Cocoa playing and the last one is after I had disassembled her crate to pack up and leave and Cocoa was in her crate .... they became such great buddies and Maui just had to be by her side! LOL!!
Lovely photos. Fingers crossed that Maui is quieter coming home where she's growing up but suspect it's more exhaustion from all the playing . Good news on settling in the crate so well and with no bother.
Was coming on to let you know Baxter lost his two front teeth a couple of days ago, Yay I thought lol looked today and his big teeth are through already
