Hi, Since picking up my puppy 3 weeks ago, I've spent most of the time with him: toilet training, playing, and just generally being in the kitchen with him. He has been brilliant at night; going to bed in his crate at 11 and this morning I woke up at 6.30 to toilet him, and he was absolutely fine. He does cry briefly when I leave him in the kitchen or in his crate and go into another room. It's important that he can occupy himself, while I have some time out, so that he gets used to being on his own when I go out right? Any tips on stopping him crying? It is only briefly, I've sat in lounge now (typing this) for 15 minutes and he hasn't cried for just over 10 minutes. Is it just patience and extending the period in different rooms? Thanks.

Yes - I always leave a small puppy Kong with a few bits of soaked kibble with Twiglet (11 weeks) even if I just go upstairs. It gets them over that 'moment of separation' hump. There soon comes a stage when they don't need it :)

With Tatze (my two year old) I only give her a stuffed Kong when I am leaving the house - it means she looks forward to me leaving, as I get my non-dog walking shoes on she rushes to the crate in anticipation.

Thanks... He loves his Kong! I can't say I'm that impressed with the actual Kong biscuits though (when I finally managed to track some down!) How do you make the kibble stay in the Kong? I've put some training treats and pressed them inside, but they come out easily.

UPDATE: I just tried the soaked kibble in the the Kong idea... Brilliant! Just been back to the kitchen to peek and he's still pushing the Kong round the kitchen 10 minutes later.
