At one of our regular classes this week we were working outdoors - on a school playing field instead of the school hall. At one point we worked on recalls - basically 3/4 length of the field with the dog having to pass between the other owners and their dogs. Harv has always had a strong recall (thank you Pippa and Total Recall) and he didn't disappoint, coming straight back, between the distractions, at full speed. The class consists of a number of GSDs, a couple of labs, a pointer, and a small terrier of some type. Afterwards one of the GSD owners said to me. "Good God your dog is fast. I've never seen anything like it.". Perhaps it's down to Harv's play sessions with Kira the greyhound on some of our walks ... Or perhaps they just haven't seen a working lab in full flight before. Made me smile anyway
Oh Harvey what a good boy you are! Yes a working lab in full flight is something else! They are fast! Bit different from Bensons ambling trot It was amazing to watch them at the CLA game fair, real turn of speed on them.
Good boy Harv! It might also be because Harv is fit - Charlie is not fast compared to most working line Labs (although he does well over a long distance - obviously when he is fit) but he is faster than most pets that don't train hard, working line or not.
Oh bless , I love to see working dogs running , Sam does it in the forest , a sight to behold, in full flight after deer , whilst I wait with baited breath for him to return crashing through the undergrowth
The Workers go like Exocet missiles when they take off .....We've surprised many an experienced lab owner with a speed explosion. It gives me confidence when an off lead dog comes barreling over to us and the owner is miles away,if it doesn't go well I know Dexter has got the speed and fitness to outrun most dogs and get away......mind you he's also got the speed and fitness to end up in the next Emirate when he spots a deer to chase!
