Myles is still just not right. He's been on antibiotics for 1 week now since being diagnosed with urinary and prostate infection. He will not drink water on his own. Even after a walk outside (it's summer in Texas). He will come in panting and will not choose to go to a water bowl. So I have to put tuna in the water for him to drink. This is how he has been getting water for 3 weeks now.

During all of this, he has been having pee issues like an increased urgency to go, and will go for a long time. It seems to me that water just goes straight to his bladder soon after drinking because he will have to pee soon and it's very clear (not yellow). So I think when my dog walker is giving him water and then he's left inside for only a couple hours, then he really has to go when I get home. This has been all the sudden in the last few weeks.
Appetite is very good. Playfulness is good. Just this pee and drink issue that is strange to me. I thought the antibiotics would work by now. He still has another week of them and then vet wants to see him again. He did say that sometimes certain antibiotics won't kill certain bacteria. So we will see. But still don't understand why he refuses to drink water.

Anyway sorry so long, just been a bit stressful :(

Hmm it does sound odd. I would give the vet a call and see what he thinks. Hope poor Myles perks up soon! No fun for him or you!

    Hi

I would ring your vet he/she might need to change his anti biotics.
get a chicken breast cut it into cubes boil it til cooked strain all the chicken out let it cool use half the chickeny water to mix with his water bowl and makes ice cubes with whats left. It might get him to drink and he might like to chew the cubes. If he can't tolerate chicken do the same with de boned white fish. Also label the ice cubes so no one uses them in human drinks( my OH did it didn't help his whiskey at all).
Hope he improves soon hugs S

Poppy isn't a great drinker and I always put water in with her food. But I would definitely call the vet and have a chat - What's going on with Myles doesn't sound right.

Sorry, no doggy advice here but I have had experience myself that may be similar. I've had a lot of kidney issues and have found that sometimes the type of antibiotics just doesn't work that type of infection. Generally you should notice a difference pretty quickly so I'd be heading back to the vet to try a different type of antibiotics. Hope he feels better soon ☺

I'm sure it's very stressful for you, seeing him not right. I hope he's back to normal before too long.

Poor Myles not feeling much better. I would be checking with the vet, not drinking is a concern particularly when it's hot. May need a change of antibiotics to kill off the infection.Hope he's better soon.

Thank you for the feedback everyone. I think posting on this forum has some sort of miraculous healing powers, as he always seems to improve right after I post. Hmm.

Today his pee has seemed very normal to me. He still won't drink unless there is tuna in his water. I fear I may have created a monster here, a spoiled dog who will only drink tuna water for the rest of his life .

We will finish up his antibiotics this week and vet will do another sonogram to look at prostate and bladder. Hopefully all is clear.

Thank you all for your kind words!

Ahh, finally all back to normal. Seems the not wanting to drink was indeed related to the infection. Once he finished antibiotics, he's started drinking regular non-tuna water  . Hopefully all will stay normal now that we are done with the meds.
