Bailey has had a mixture of fairly loose (mousse-like) stools and runny diarrhoea for 2/3 days. What's the best way to tackle this? Meals only and no additional chew/treats? He only eats Royal Canin kibble and the odd rawhide chew/Dentastix with training treats. Can anyone suggest the easiest way to pick this up from the grass too!
Hi! Ella had this a few weeks ago and we took her to the vet to be on the safe side. We think it was caused by her eating a very large amount of kangaroo poo from my parents property so nothing too serious but it wasn't resolving itself. The vet gave us a special wet food and electrolytes for her water to get her right. So it might be worth a trip to the vet for advice and peace of mind. However I've seen some of the more experienced people on her mention rice and chicken (I think) so I'm sure someone else will jump on soon to help ☺ Hope Bailey feels better soon. Oh, and the diarrhoea on the grass... Maybe hope for some really heavy rain . Or maybe try to pick up as much as you can and hose the rest? Good luck!
You really need to consult a Vet. If he is not drinking it becomes an emergency. Rawhide chews can give you dogs the runs. I would cut out all treats. Dentastix used to have an adverse effect on Molly's tum. Chicken and plain boiled rice is the norm for dealing with diahorrea, though some dogs don't seem to tolerate the chicken. If you have no chicken just plain boiled rice, make it on the sloppy side to help get fluids into him. Young tums are easily upset. As for the poo problem. Scrape up what you can, then buckets and buckets of water.
Yes call the vet, cut out chews and treats, make sure your puppy is drinking. But that's what the vet is for. Let us know how your pup gets on.
Poor Bailey, the little ones risk dehydration if the poop is as runny as you describe and has been going on for several days. Sometimes when our dogs are a bit older we suggest chicken and rice, or scrambled egg without milk, all very sloppy, but really......I have to agree you would be better running it past a vet to be sure. Just like human babies, they can get ill very quickly when small, and sometimes diarrhoea can be a sign of other illness, parasites, infections, all sorts, and not just down to what they have eaten (which is legion I hope you run this past your vet at the very least. Our vet said cottage cheese and rice for 2 days, followed chicken and rice for 2 days, but I would always ring the vet and see what they say. Hope Bailey is soon feeling better.
Definitely speak with the vet. Chicken and rice has always helped Harley as has scrambled egg. Hope Bailey gets better soon
Willow was on royal canin from the breeder and had diarrhoea for a while, and then blood/mucus in her poo. We took her to the vet after being on chicken/rice/scrambled egg and they told us she has colitis. We then got given special tinned food for her, and used prokolin too. It still hadn't cleared up so she was given antibiotics which really helped and she's just finished them now. Going to the vets is definitely the way to go. Hope Bailey is okay and it gets sorted soon! That kind of poo is awful to clean up I know
Hope Bailey is ok now. It must be doing the rounds, as my two are both off-colour today. Wispa had diarrhoea in the night and showed no interest in food this morning, then was sick after drinking water. The vet said it's non-specific gastroenteritis. Tuppence also has diarrhoea, but hasn't had any 'accidents'. She 's just not her normal, lively self. Both have eaten rice this evening, though Tuppence wasn't impressed! They're now sleeping and aren't bothered about going into the garden.
