Hello, I already have a 3 months old female puppy (Lucy) and 2 days ago have adopted a 1 y.o male (Snoopy). The problem now is that the male is constantly trying to make out with the puppy and doesn't let her be. I'm not quite sure what can be done. For now, I keep them separated most of the time. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi, you don't say if Snoopy has been castrated ? Rescue dogs take a time to settle , I have one too and she did the same to my adult lad , its often due to insecurities . Keeping them apart most of the time is a case of winning the battle but not the war, so to speak . I would try to use a distraction once he starts to get frisky , a squeaky toy or treat to get his attention away from Lucy , but it must be done the moment he starts to show unwanted attention . Remember though, that he is barely out of puppyhood himself , and so whilst definitely showing your disproval and using a distraction, don't be too tough on him , two days is a very short space of time for him to have settled in , good luck
He is not neutered (if that was what you meant). I certainly will not be tough on him. Thank you very much for your advice - helpful and Reassuring
You`re welcome , just give Snoopy some time to settle in and find his place in your family , they usually do
Snoopy is surprisingly friendly to everyone in my family, even to my in-laws who visited us today. He is such a darling. I'll post up some pictures later.
What lovely photos. I'm sure they will settle down together. As Kate says, its early days, and her distraction technique is tried and tested! What gorgeous big ears Lucy has Welcome to the forum! jac
