Hi everyone. I have a 10-week chocolate lab pup. He's quite the piggy! He's very food motivated and sits by our fridge and the counter space where we put his food in his bowls. Anyway, he loves a frozen kong and it keeps him busy for at least 20 minutes which is nice for my sanity. I've been doing peanut butter and a little bit of kibble, but I'm looking for some lower calorie options that won't upset his tummy; he's already 9kg.

For mine these days, I normally just do raw mince in medium size ones (you can use turkey mince to keep it lower calorie) and for the large ones, I soak kibble with either tinned sardines or tinned tuna mashed up and mixed through. One can of sardines makes four large kongs, so there isn't much sardine in each one. You could also use white fish if you wanted, maybe prawns sliced small, mixed with soaked kibble.

Obviously, you need to reduce what he gets at meal time to take into account what he has in his kongs. In fact, some people feed everything in interactive ways like this, and don't have regular meals. Last night, I went out for dinner, so mine were left with two large kongs and a medium one each in place of dinner in a bowl. Not only does it keep them occupied for longer, but it tires them our more because they have to think harder.

Kong Wobblers are also good for extending meal times and making them think.
