I am reading this book by Turid Rugaas, I really wanted it for my collection for future reference for future puppies :)

Hattie is pretty good on a slack lead but I found one thing Turid suggests very helpful is to make a click, click noise with your tongue to get your dogs attention back on you and immediately treat, it's far better than a vebal "heel" which can be seen as nagging. I put this to the test over the last 3 days with Hattie who occassionally pulls and it worked extremely well, she looks to me most of the time now :) Does anyone else use this method?

I thought anyone with pulling issues might like to buy this book give it a go. Again it's a short to the point training book. I highly recommend it.

This book was on Ebay for £6.00 with free P&P. xx

Hi Helen, I'm sure I read that one, and I kind of naturally did that anyway - its just a marker really.
Trouble is, because I had done it for a lot of things - for getting attention, it wasn't really a marker. Not sure if that made it a "cue".
Anyway, yes, I thought it really useful, but by the time I read about it I had kind of spoiled it
It was a pretty short book, and kind of covered a lot of stuff we had talked about on the forum at the time.
    Worth a read I think.

I love that book! It helped me a lot when Charlie was a pup.

The "click click" from that book turned into my permanent positively trained interrupter/attention cue. :) I no longer use it for walking, but do use it all the time. :)

I've just ordered this, along with her book on barking. I've just read On Talking Terms with Dogs. Great little book. Which was also recommended on the forum. I used to do the click click noise and had good results. I'm wondering now why I stopped using it.

    Hi
I have just discovered Turid Rugaas. I am just about to start her book on barking And I am waiting for on talking terms with dogs And what if your dog pulls. Poppy our 7 month old chocolate lab is a terrible puller. her nose is down and she is off. so much so i have just bought a halti for her, as it was becoming impossible for us to take her out of the garden. I will try the clicking noise . while waiting for the book:)
