I have a three year old black lab. She is neutered and has been with us for about 2.5 years. We also have three cats and another dog, all been with eachother for at least 2 years. We moved about 6 weeks ago and was adjusting fine (bigger space, backyard, and no more crate). She was digging in the garden yesterday were we recently had cracked some bad eggs to help our garden. Well i yelled at her and her sister to come back inside. She generally doesn't spend all her time upstairs, after she came back inside, she went straight up stairs to our closet. Sometimes she sleeps in it since its carpetted. When I called her back downstairs, she was sitting in an odd place in front of our main A/C vent. Called her to come with me and she did. If I am not petting her, she just goes upstairs and goes to sleep. But when we call or, talk to her, pet her, her tail always wags. She isn't panting and doesn't appear to be in pain. She is eating slightly less than normal, but they are allowed to graze. She is used to being home (without humans) all day, but today my fiancee is home with her and she is acting the same. What could be wrong? She has sensitive skin and belly, so it may be her stomach, but she hasn't thrown up and I don't know if she is having diarrhea. Could she be depressed since we are always yelling at her to stop chewing at her butt and pushing her away when she jumps on us? We tend to give the other dog a little more attention because she is small and can sleep with us...just looking for some insight. It started yesterday around 6 p.m.When I get home from work I plan to sit on the floor with her and hang out. Please give me some advice. Thank you.

I'd take her temperature. That sounds like sick or pain to me. I'd keep a close eye on her. How many of the bad eggs do you think she ate?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

So the odd behaviour is taking herself off upstairs alone when normally she would not do this? Personally I'd take her to the vet for a checkup. She may be in some discomfort for some reason and is seeking space as a kind of self-protective mechanism. I would want to rule out a physical problem.

You mentioned that she is chewing herself a lot - you could talk to the vet about that too. There may be a reason for that, like some kind of allergy. Medication may give her relief from the itchiness, which can be really uncomfortable.

Let us know how things go :)
