I use to buy him millies wolfheart (high quality, high protein), as a pup he'd enjoy that to no ends! But now he's 1 years old he missed a lot of meals because he just wouldn't eat it, I've switched to bakers now (I know its absolutely terrible) but I felt like I was wasting money on this quality food that was just going to waste..... I'm not sure what to do as I don't want this cheap Crap to effect his health but if he's not eating the good stuff that's gonna effect his health as well

Also hes kinda iffy about eating bakers too

Stop the Bakers! There are lots of other cheaper foods which are much better, Skinners, CSJ for two. He may not be keen to eat as he has feels full up, or he may be unwell. Perhaps a trip to the vet to make sure he is well, then reduce the food until he is eating readily.

Many dog food manufacturers offer samples. Certainly Canogan do. They are not usually on display, but if you ask you will be given several small samples.

Hmmmm ,hi there, did you notice anything else different when he went off his food? How long was he actually missing meals for?Do you use food as training rewards? could he be having too many high value tasty bits and hes got a little fussy about his regular food?Samples are a great idea, but I'm very cautious about any diet changes having a dog that's quite easily upset tummy wise. That said you need to find something that he enjoys ,I'd say just be careful chopping and changing too much whilst you find the right food.Several times members have posted that they've had a bag of food has just been 'off' and that's out their dog off....could that be a possibility?

I had a similar problem with our first dog when he was young, he was "fussy", and would just stop eating. I would then switch him to something else, and he'd eat that for a while, and then the cycle continued. There was no medical reason he wasn't eating, turns out he just wasn't hungry, I followed the feeding guide on the food, and it was too much combined with his training rewards.

I cut back what I was feeding him, and lifted any uneaten food after 15 minutes. I never had anymore problems after this, I think we end up making them fussy, as they learn if they don't eat it they get extra attention and other food offered.

Did he go off when you started a new bag of food? It's not unheard of for a lot of food to have something wrong with it. Maybe not even anything to do with manufacture, maybe it sat too long in a hot place before you bought it. Or, sometimes manufacturers change ingredients. Worse, sometimes they don't bother to put it on the label or they use up old bags wrongly labelled first. If you have an old bag you could check the ingredients lists to see if they're the same. Or contact the manufacturer and ask. Maybe Loki just doesn't like the smell or taste of a new ingredient. Not that that would help you much but at least you'd know what to look out for in other foods.

All great advise thanks guys! A little more information; he's been like this since about 7-8 months old, when I mentioned it the vet they said maybe he just not a morning eater (I feed him at 7am every morning) he done it with many different bags of and flavours of millies wolf heart, when I changed to pedigree he wolfed down the first portion then the next day he was back to eating a tiny bit or not at all...... Training treat wise he doesn't get many at all,

All in all he's a healthy pup just seem picky
