Ah bad news, glad you can get him checked today ...you might not like me saying this but it would be what I would do ( and have done) I'd sleep with him if he can get the cone off....I'd rather have a week or so of rubbish nights ( you will get some sleep) and the wound not become disturbed or infected .....that takes care of the nights ....sorry,I know it's not ideal.I slept with Dexter in the lounge for a month ...once h was fully recovered he went straight back into his crate downstairs ,his usual pre op bedtime routine with no trouble .what is your supervision arrangement for him during the day? That's when he could have opportunity for a sneaky worry of his wound....it's such a bugger because some dogs really don't bother their wound sites...

Good to hear that he's feeling much better but can't help with the cone problem as it's not something I've had to deal with. Worth a chat with the vet for suggestions.

I have a week off work so im in the house all day with him to watch him. A relative has suggested to use cable ties to keep the cone on, one tied to his collar and the other to keep the cone together. I need to get another cone from the vet first

Had a terrible visit to the vets. Turned up on time but they kept me waiting half an hour even though Nero kept Barking constantly at the other people in the waiting room. People were walking past and I was struggling to control him. He is always the same at the vets, not sure if its anxiety or just pure excitement!
He didnt like the vet looking at his bits so I basically had to try my best to hold him still (not easy with him being 34kg!)
Anyway he said the stitches are ok for now but its very red and sore from him licking overnight. They gave me a new cone which is bigger than the last one as he said he needed the largest size really.
He is booked in a week tomorrow for the stiches out, we just need to make sure he doesnt lick the wound anymore. I got some cable ties to tie the cone to his collar which hopefully will stop him from removing it

Anyways after a very stressful day im going to have a glass of whiskey!!

Oh poor you and Nero. For your next appointment why don't you ask for a quiet time of day to take Nero in if he is anxious, I am sure the vets would be only too happy to accommodate Nero as it's easier for them too. Poor lad. Hope the larger cone helps. If it helps I used the Comfy Cone in extra large (31cm) for Charlie's recent foot surgery and he no way could reach the stitches.

    Enjoy your whiskey!! ;)

Enjoy your whiskey, sounds as if you deserve it. To help Nero at the vets you could try taking him in and just sitting for a few minutes, or my favourite pop him on the scales to check his weight

That whiskey did me good! Had a chilled out night

Put the larger cone on him last night and used cable ties to attach it to his collar and this morning its still attached.... Hooray! The wound is looking better today too so fingers crossed

So far so good. He has managed to keep the cone on all week, even though he did try to destroy it and damaged part of it! Had to fix with some masking tape!
He is booked in to have his stitches out Saturday morning, I cant wait for him to take the cone off, hes been knocking things over all week

Well you can't blame him Dean. Hope he doesn't have to wear it much longer. Keep taking the whiskey :)

Just got back from the vets, not good news....

The wound had scabbed and the scabs came off when they pulled the stitches out so its very sore...
So Nero has to wear the dreaded cone for another few days

That's a shame but is only for a few more days. Better to be safe and nicely healed before dispensing with the cone. A small whiskey perhaps to help you relax
