Our six month old puppy is lathargic and for the first time ever not following me around the house. She just hangs out by herself. She is eating, drinking and poop and pee are all normal. Friends say it is because she is teething. What do you think?? How long should the last? I miss my puppy.
I would keep a close eye on her none of my guys did this how long has it been going on for? and is she chewing things like shes got a sore mouth? Maybe ring the vet an see what they say?
Hi Justine, I didn't experience anything like that with my Ella when she was teething but she's the only dog I've had so I have nothing to compare it to. She was essentially the same, just a bit restless and more bitey ☺ The only time she's been lethargic was when she was sick though and, even though she was still eating, drinking and toileting as normal, after a couple of days it caught up with her and she started vomiting. She was fine after visit with the vet and diet modification though. Not saying this to worry you, sorry! However, I'd recommend a trip to the vet if your girl doesn't perk up soon, just to make sure it's her way of dealing with the teething. Hope she's back to her normal self soon ☺
I'm with these guys. Have a low threshold for a vet visit. We wish they could tell us what's up eh? If you are worried best get a check up.
Have to agree. A quick check with the vet is best if puppy is lethargic. Have you looked in the mouth fir sore gums, or teeth coming through? They all tend to be different when teething just like babies. Juno had finished all her teething by 5.5 months when she was spayed.
Lethargic and puppies are not usually uttered in the same breath. I've seen 2 dogs through teething and it did not affect them in any way, except Molly stopped chewing on me. Pups can easily be off colour, they have very young immune systems. I would visit the Vet. I know it costs money, but if you have a problem it is best to catch it early. If she gets the all clear it will put your mind at rest.
Another vote for the vet here. My two weren't lethargic in the slightest during teething and certainly didn't stop following me everywhere. A trip to the vet will put your mind at rest and give her the care she needs if she's in pain, which dogs are really good at hiding.
Same advise from me. I had three pups and neither of them were lethargic. I remember our first lab was lethargic when we had her for two days. She had played in the garden and as far as we knew didn't eat anything for there was nothing in the garden she could eat. Later on she started to get diarrhea and threw up. She had to stay at the vet for she had eaten cat pooh.... Sometimes we don't have a clue what is the matter. Better check it out! Annemarie
