    Hi,
I'm new to the site so please excuse me if this has been asked a gazillion times before.
Hachi my 1 yr old golden lab was neutered on Tuesday and I'm wondering how long after neutering can he go out for a normal walk?

I've had a few issues with him chewing his vest and have had to resort to the collar of shame lol, but he is full of beans and is constantly crying to go out. Think he needs to run off some of his built up energy. But I don't want to do it too soon and cause a set back.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks
    Shelly

Hi and welcome to the forum :) I'd say that at 4 days post-op he can definitely go out for a walk. If other dogs are around I'd keep him on lead (so he doesn't get stomped on in a delicate place..) but if you have a safe dog-free area for off lead running then I'd let him have a run. Personally I wouldn't allow off lead play till the wound is healed, but other than that I'd act as normal at this point.

Thanks Rachael, he's been out round the park on the lead since day 3, he was getting rather miserable in the garden lol, I have some fields across the road but there are other dog walkers that go there, it's a case of getting there when no one else is around to let him off.
Maybe keeping him on the extendable lead initially might be the best bet, and let him off if no one else is around?

    Thanks again x

Yes, that sounds like a good plan and is essentially what I'd do in the same situation :)

Oh I remember this well , all that pent up energy ! The longer you can keep him on a long line, the better really but if no one else is around to tempt him into play , then let him off over the next day or so . Welcome to the forum too :)

Thanks everyone, I don't want to be over protective lol, but at the same time I don't want him to hurt himself. But labradors being like they are don't have a slow or stop button and if he was to be over active that could cost my pocket somewhat haha!

Thanks for the welcome, lots to read and learn from by the looks of it....Can't wait!
