Rocco, my 6 year old yellow boy was at the vets a week ago with red sore ears and scratching at them. The vet said it was an infection, and gave me canaural for a week. His ears are now really really sore and red. Going back to vets tonight if I can get a sitter. He can't even bear them touched :(( I've given him some piriton to try and take the redness and itching out til we get there. I'm having to keep Piper away from him because if she catches them I really don't know how he'd react :((

Oh poor boy. I hope the vet can help Rocco, ear infections can be so difficult to clear and so uncomfortable for our pups. Definitely try and keep Piper away a bit more to give Rocco some peace. Let us know how you get on.

Poor love , I believe that Labs are prone to ear infections due to their ear flaps covering the ear opening most of the time , that's what my Vet told me anyway ;) Sam recently had cannaural for the same reason , hoping Rocco is lots better soon .

Fingers crossed that the antibiotics and new ear drops start working very quickly. Poor boy - Juno sends Labrador licks to make him feel better

Loads of sympathy from here - Charlie suffered really badly as a pup and I messed about with them for ages trying to get it all cleared up. In the end I saw an excellent dermatologist and he sorted it out. Expensive, but if I had just consulted him in the first place it would have been cheaper than the ENDLESS vet appointments I paid for!

Now, I monitor his ears just about daily and at the first sign of any redness I clean his ears with a cleaner that keeps the ph balance right, and that seems to do the trick.

Much sympathy from me too. Our last Lab had problems with ear infections and it took ages to clear. Every time we thought we were winning it would come back. Eventually the vet found some ear drops that worked. I hope that Rocco's ears clear quickly as it can be really uncomfortable.

I usually just browse, but I created an account so that I could comment on this thread. My lab started getting ear infections at abut 6 months, and nothing the vet gave us seemed to work. I finally bought Zymox ear solution (not the cleanser) on amazon and her infection started to improve in under 24 hours. It is amazing and I highly recommend it!
