Please, Please get something other than a stick to retrieve.
A dog can get some serious injuries with a stick going down its throat when running.

She is catching on, all right! Good girl Roxie...

Try a tennis ball instead of the stick - safer and more fun too!

How did you get Roxie to bring it back? Cooper runs for it, picks it up, and then drops it right there so I have to go and pick it up.....is he playing a game with me? Or does he know I have to lose weight????

    Fun, fun, fun!

Sue (Indy) ir right though, sticks can potentially cause horrific injuries to dogs - you can use balls or one of these latex Safestix.
Its so tempting just to throw a stick if its handy, and like Cupar, Lilly isn't the most enthusiastic retriever, so sticks seem dispensable! Good size pine cones can be a good thing to play fetch with too.

we went for a walk then she went to the horses to help me water them lol. She is obsessed with sticks loves to play with them. I dont know always before she would run after it then want me to chase her and play keep away but suddely she was playing fetch so good and even dropping it by my feet and waiting for me to throw it again.

she has always been obsessed with sticks ever since i got her when she was very little. Dont know why thats one of her favorite things to play with and i have tons of trees so its impossible to keep her away from sticks. yes i cant believe how big she has gotten where has the time gone.

Oh I know, my dog loves sticks too, and I quite often let her carry them around, but for throwing I always have a tennis ball or something similar in my pocket.

We used to use a safestix, but it was too bulky and, er, just weird, so now we are back to tennis balls or dummy balls. Actually, I find a dummy ball (on a string) the easiest thing - it fits in a pocket, and because of the string you can throw it a long way. I take the toggle off the end, as it often hits the dog in the face when running, and the ball is more likely to get stuck in a tree (caught on a branch) with the toggle on the end.

Roxie is really sweet - and big! Remember when you thought she might be a labrador cross with something very small - was it a Malteser or something? Or have I just made that up???

Yes, it is easy for a dog to get obsessed with sticks, after all they are there where ever we go.

Please 'Google' dog stick injuries, and if you are brave enough look at the images.

Then go buy some tennis balls or a throwing dummy.

Lol it's not that I haven't bought her toys she has tons of toys. Yes lol my brother said there was a small Maltese looking dog hanging around he thought after her fur started to get longer might be the father though that was just one he saw another was a black a white boxer. Don't think the small Maltese looking dog was the father my dog is almost 8 months old and already bigger then her mom.
