    hiya,

Weve only had jack for 2 weeks and is getting loads better on the lead with the halti, wed like to be able to let him have a run but are not confident he will come back in a large open space, friends have suggested a long training lead to allow him the freedom to run without the freedom to run away!

so how long should i get?

We never used one for Sam but we had another dog when he was a puppy so he tended to stay with me and her . I got one for my rescue dog Millie , only used it for a short time but mine was about 30 ft long, fine in open ground but a nighmare in woodlands :)

I got a 15m and made it into a 10m and a 5m. I have to admit to finding walking on a fixed line hard work(it's fine for training) so am a complete outcast and use a flexi sometimes(tape not thin cord to avoid getting cut by the cord) and always attached to a harness :)

We had a dodgy time with recall and I found the best solution was finding an enclosed area where we could all relax. We're lucky in that there's a few spots by us completely enclosed with sheep fencing which is perfect. Do you have anything like that?

I also used a shorter fixed lead at it's max length it's 2m but you can halve it too. Mines a Halti padded lead but you see them unbranded on sites like Amazon.
