Dougs coat is suffering and getting patchy and dry. He's mouldting as normal but his undercoat seems very dry nd he's loosing his fur in patches. Any suggestions for a good shampoo? I think its his age and his lupus

When my old dog had a bad hair day, I use to wash him in dog shampoo with tea tree oil in it. It seemed to help.

A squidge of salmon oil on every meal soon gets them glossy. I never bath my dogs - it strips their natural oils and makes their skin much drier.

Raw coconut oil is wonderful for reviving lacklustre coats and relieving dry flaky skin . Sam was very ill back in September, his coat suffered terribly until I read about using coconut oil . I massaged it in well , it smells divine and did the trick for him .

If he's losing hair in patches I'd be considering mites or a skin infection. Some kind of condition would cause this, not just 'old age' or dry skin. Perhaps it is a symptom of lupus as you mentioned..?

Thats all been done Rachael he went to the vets on saturday. he's had a bath in some stuff for flakey dry doggy skin tonight and seem a bit better and I've been using fish oil for some time. The vet thinks old age but he's also got a lot and I multiple lumps and lots of tiny small cysts all over his skin which we think is down to his Auto immune stuff. Just wondered if any one else had experienced this type of thing. I might get some coconut oil and give that ago
    Thanks everyone
