Why do you drink dihydrogen monoxide warm? Not even with a bit of C[SUB]6[/SUB]H[SUB]8[/SUB]O[SUB]7 [/SUB]

Oberon, when I do worm my dogs I use a veterinary prescription, I don't believe in alternative wormers :D I don't believe that dogs do re-inect themselves if they have had a good wormer before. Not many dogs get tapeworm and you can see when they do (they get tapewomr from the flea and eating mice etc) as they are the intermediate host. As I have said, if lungworm came to my area then I would definitely worm.

I know that tapeworm is not really an issue in many places in the UK, but it is here (Australia) and it can infect humans. I was just using that as an example. We don't have lungworm or Lyme disease, for example, but we do have heartworm and paralysis ticks. Fleas are not a problem in my area so I don't treat for that. Just got to know what's relevant for your area....which parasites are relevant will vary from region to region...

I have to say though, I don't treat Charlie monthly (as Advocate recommends) because he has been tested twice for parasites, and both times - once six weeks after Advocate, and once seven weeks after Advocate, and both times he was clear of all parasites.

I won't risk further apart because of lungworm though - that risk is very high. And I NEVER want to risk ear mites with Charlie's history.

His tapeworm risk is pretty low, he doesn't tend to eat anything that might risk tapeworm - his main successful scavenging is the end of a sausage as we pass the butcher's . One vet says every 3 months, the other vet says every 6 months is enough. I go for 4 - 5 months.

I doubt the risk of fleas is high, really. No cats..

I honestly do not know what his risk is for roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, sarcoptic mange....his risk of heartworm is pretty much (but not quite) zero in the UK.

Night on the sofa for me as Dexter had his 2 Drontal this morning. Fingers crossed he doesn't get an upset tummy this time but as he whines very quietly if he does, I'll be able to hear him and hopefully get him out before he explodes in his crate. Next dose not due for 3 - 6 months after these ones. He had his advocat last week. He was wormed before we got him and then again a month later and he passed the longest worm I've ever seen, gross But better out than in . We have a lot of slugs and snails so lung worm is a worry. Vet has advised advocat monthly for this. We do a slug and snail patrol in our garden and dispose of any we find, blimming pests
