    Hi everyone,

Iv been in the land of no signal or Internet (Cornwall) for the last couple of days so Murphy has been with Charlie (my fiancé) all weekend. Since iv been gone Murphy has now discovered the sofa as a very comfy bed for him even though he's not allowed and he's also gone back to weeing anywhere rather than outside which is rather annoying.

Anyway I am mainly writing because he has started snapping, even making a cracking sound where he's cracking his teeth together. He jumps up and does it towards your face which isn't very pleasant and if you go to stroke his head he does it.

    Is this normal?

    Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, not too much help from me.....our boy was 5 months when he came to us,but we still had a bit of hurting mouthing then and even now at 10 months in the height of excitement he will put his teeth on us gently....Im sure from reading other posts of younger dogs it will be puppy teeth and exuberance ......

Nipping very normal, there are articles and threads...nothing to worry about, but you can deal with it.

Hi, Think I can help. Im going through the same thing with Otis who is three months. A firm loud no, and gently restrain him, but don't interact with him , and try not to move to much, cos he see this as wanting to play. The nipping is to get your attention to play, and if its your face or ears, a sign of affection (!) as they did this with the mother dog. Also you can yelp loudly and say ouch, and also don't interact, but pause, and wait, hard if hes plunging his teeth into you, gently restrain again. You can also soothe him, afterwards by stroking him of course, try to calm him if you don't want to play. He will stop, so don't worry. Cant help with the couch bit, as I don't mind if Otis does this, but I would try and stop it now. Otis in the last three week has got much bigger, and started to be able to jump up on quite high things. Hope this helps, Maggiex

I have no advice to give that hasn't already been given, but know that you are not alone. Everything in our first week with Zoe has been going smoothly with the exception of the nipping. We went for our first vet visit today and he assured me that nipping it is completely normal. I will say that when we head out to the back yard, the days of bare feet or flip flops are gone. It is rubber boots for me. I do still cry out every time she bites in to the boots just to keep up the method of trying to let her know when she has taken it too far. Someone has mentioned previously about not moving and I have found that to be even more effective than crying out as she gets bored with my feet quicker if they are not moving. Good luck!

It'll stop soon, and your pup will have learned how to mouth gently. Amazing, but it's really true! Hang in there. :)
