We finally have some snow and the usual small problems it brings. Apparently that first thing in the morning out for a pee must be accompanied by a good roll in the snow. Even though he knows brekkie is waiting. A Lab? Delaying breakfast? Yep. :)

IS there anything that trumps food for your pup?

Snow! Lucky you. Just more mud here! As per.....

In the house, Charlie is a very typical Labrador, very focused on food - he absolutely loves to eat, and would stuff his face until he was sick given the chance. But outside, he often has better things to do - it isn't possible lure him with food when he is at all excited. He can eat, so not that excited, but he won't stop what he is doing on the promise of food. I've been driven to higher and higher value food rewards, but that only gets me so far. I have to work very hard to get the behaviour I want in other ways, then reward (often starting with toys) and eventually I can use food and so conveniently build up a history of reinforcement.

I have to admit to being a bit envious when I meet other dogs that will give up much more for food!
