LUKA my 2.5 yr old yellow lab developed a small lump on the left side of his face. It was red and raised looking like a possible infection. The Vet prescribed a course of antibiotics and the redness reduced but the lump was increasing in size. It was just on the exterior of his face, it was not seen inside his mouth. So, we decided to remove it and send to the lab for analysis. The result is back and happily the result is benign and should not reoccur. Apparently it is not uncommon in young dogs. The Vet did a very nice incision and once his fur returns I don't think we will see it at all. It came on quite quickly so it is always good to give your woofer a good checking over!

That must have been worrying, I'm so happy that it was benign and Luka is recovering.

Yes it was worrying as lumps are not usually good things. We had returned from a walk and as usual he had bits of bushes etc around his head from the endless sniffing! It was then I saw this small raised bump the size of the tip of an eraser on a pencil. He is in excellent health, shiny coat, nice wet nose, bright eyes and good appetite so I hoped he was ok. The cone for 2 weeks was a nightmare around the house. It was like he was a snow plow and just shoved everything out of his path! He is a big strong boy at 40kg and very little fat, big muscles to barge with. He managed to break the cone in 2 places and a combo of duct tape and masking tape managed to keep it together to the de-coning day!

Good to hear that the vet was so thorough and the lump proved to benign. These pups are such a worry

Ah what a worry for you - so glad to hear the lump is nothing malignant and that Luka is making a good recovery.

What a relief the lump was malignant, hoping Luka continues to recover well.

My rescue boy Charlie 5 years old had a lump on his face when we adopted him at 9 months old which I had tested, glad to say it's nothing nasty and it's still there, we do have to keep an eye on it for changes in size or texture. It doesn't spoil his good looks!! xx :)

Glad it all ended well :) Definitely worth getting lumps and bumps checked out.

Thank you for all your kind messages. Luka is back on form loving life sans cone! It's nice to have him back to himself as it was all hard from eating to playing or just coming for cuddles and bashing us with the blasted cone. I am pleased the tumor has been removed as I don't have to keep monitoring it and worrying. Great Vet in our little French village-Luka has been seeing him since he was 8 weeks old and really likes him and vice versa:)
