Ok, don't get too excited, we still haven't actually clipped any of Ella's nails. However, today we had a little breakthrough! We were able to calmly place the clippers around one of Ella's nails (so that it was in position ready to cut) before calmly removing and giving lots of treats! A month ago we couldn't touch her paws and she would run away if we even got the clippers out of the box so I'd say we're definitely making progress ☺☺☺
Scratch that, we cut a nail, we cut a nail!!!!!!!! The OH wanted to push it a bit further (I was worried as I didn't want to rush and end up going back a step) so, after a LOT of sardines, we cut one nail!! Ella was a star, didn't move or try to pull away at all! We only cut the tiniest bit off and I insisted that we stopped with one but I'm so pleased ☺!
Well done!!! If you've seen my posts on nail filing, you'll know I understand what a slow process it can be! Just keep it slow now (as I'm sure you will), and don't push on too quickly. One nail a day is plenty until she's really, really comfortable with it. Good stuff
snowbunny I have seen your posts so I knew you'd understand my excitement! Yep, slowly slowly now, only one nail per day and only if she seems in the right mood for it. Now I'm off to buy the world's supply of sardines (plus some disposable gloves to try and prevent the smell transfer) ☺
