Ella has an itchy right eye. The actual eyeball doesn't appear to be itchy but the skin around it. She's on antibiotics for her UTI (and it seems to be clearing up thankfully) and the vet said we'd see if the eye cleared up too before we did further investigation. It still seems really itchy and, as you can see, she's rubbed away some fur. Any ideas as to what this could be?

Btw - she is regularly wormed with Revolution plus Canex so is protected against the following:

Poor Ella, fingers crossed that it starts responding to the antibiotics together with the UTI. Can't help on what it could be.

    Aww...poor girl.
Funny if it's just one eye. If it's an allergy i Iwould think 2 eyes most likely.
Might that happen if there is a grass seed or something in the eye?

You know, I had something very similar with Charlie over Christmas. I never got to the bottom of it. I do think it is really easy to spot these problems on Choccies because it's so obvious when they have rubbed away the fur.

I first got a course of anti-bioctic cream from the vet, it clearly eased things while Charlie was on it, but the problems came back right away once finished. Then a week of drops, problems came back after the drops had finished. Took a swab to be sent away for analysis - zilch, nothing to report.

Then, we applied the drops for 2 weeks solid - two bottles until they were all used up. This knocked it on the head, and cleared it up - well, massively improved anyway. Charlie has always had a tiny bit of discharge around his eyes, ever since he was a puppy.

Every time he comes back from a walk, we wipe over his eyes with water, and round his face. His eyes are still a little itchy, and he'll rub them time to time but they are massively better, so I'm not going to pursue it further right now, but if they get bad again, I'll ask for a referral to a specialist. Not sure what kind, but I suppose there must be specialists in itchy eyes....

My vet also gave me some drops that I keep in the fridge, with a shelf life of 6 months, which I can apply if he eyes get bad over a weekend or something, before I can get to a vet on the Monday.

Obi has itchy eyes at the moment that are a bit weepy with pus too (sorry if having brekkie anyone). We are using Chlorsig eye drops, which are normally for conjunctivitis. In his case it's allergies caused by pollen and similar.
