    Hi ,
We also got a 7 week old and the first week his bladder couldn't last the night but after that he has been a dream 10.30-7 - we do have him in a crate that we can shut him in and I think that is the key. He is happy (after a couple of nights of whining right at the beginning) to jump into his crate with his big teddy and a couple of biscuits - very sweet to see him rush in there when I say bedtime. They all have different bladder control though. I really recommend a crate if you can - it's a great thing if they love them and sleep helps a lot on this early puppy stage!!

Also when you take her out have a word you use for a pee and a poo (I just say those words!!) and he will now (at 11weeks) do them on command at 10pm so I know he's done what he needs to do before he goes to bed)!

Thanks Sam!! I'll see how tonight goes. Maybe she goes to bed too early? She just exhausted herself at 8.30pm!! We try and wake her for an extra play before 11pm but not always so easy! The play, eat and sleep routine may need adjustment too. She eats her last meal at 8pm...too late maybe?
I do say wee wee and poo poo when she goes! I don't think she's picked up on it yet though...!

Hi Pip and welcome. 8 weeks would be very young to know wee and poo. Just keep repeating when she goes and she will learn, especially if rewarded with lots of praise and some treats. I'm guessing that at 8 weeks she is still on 4 meals so it gets a little difficult to bring the last meal much earlier and have them spaced out during the day, or breakfast comes earlier. Juno has normally had her last meal around 7 in the evening and bedtime around 11:00 although she will have been crashed on her bed or by my feet for a couple of hours :).

To be honest I wouldn't try to wake her for a play before bed as you run the risk of her becoming over tired and bitey very quickly. I always think of a puppy in the same way as a baby as there are lots of similarities in that they eat, sleep, play, wee and poo ;). Would you wake a baby to have a playtime before bed? I certainly didn't, not unless I wanted to be up half the night  .

Great advice. Thanks Rosemary . We couldn't wake her last night anyway!! She just went straight back to bed!

Relax and enjoy your puppy, they are little for such s short time. If you haven't already read it Pippa's Happy Puppy Handbook is full of information and advice, I read it twice before Juno joined us and dipped into it regularly
