Ok when my pup arrived at 9 weeks he was VERY itchy.

The breeder was feeding pet shop food.

I put him on applaws and that gave him the runs really bad BUT he was less itchy.

I then put him on skinners duck and rice. He has seemed fine with this for about 3 month now he seems to be rejecting it.

Some days he has a very healthy appetite and other days he only wants half the amount of kibble if that but will eat his frozen kongs fine.

For the past 2 weeks (I put it down to the heat at first) he has been sick every 3 days or so.

He is pooping fine. About 3-4 time a day and its perfect as it should be.

He eats butchers tinned tripe in his kongs. and he has 2 kongs a day.

Since he has been put on skinners he has not been very itchy. Still itchy not no way near as much.

Im wondering if he is developing an intolerance to either the duck or the rice?

Im wondering what food to put him on to try it out now?

He is fine in himself other wise

    Help! :)

BTW ITS always kibble he pukes up. fully formed still most of the time just soft.

It can take anything from 15 minutes which was this morning to a couple of hours for him to puke. He eats about 150g per meal at best

He was also treated with advocate on sunday. later that day he was sick in the street and today he was sick.

Could the advocate be affecting him 2 days later?

Could it of been the heat before and the advocate on sunday and today?

So sorry to hear that he is having troubles. I would be taking him along to the vet. One vomit now and then is not necessarily a big deal but it sounds like he is being sick far more than is normal. I really think that a vet's advice is the way to go.

It may be that the food is causing both the itchiness and the vomiting but your vet can advise on that.

Do you have a good local vet you can go to?

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you and someone else may come along and suggest something very straightforward. However if this was me I would be talking to my vet. I don't worry if Riley is occasionally sick but every three days for a couple of weeks would concern me.

Riley is on duck and rice and sometimes doesn't finish a meal but he's a healthy looking weight so I don't worry about that but he's not regularly sick after meals.

I do have a local vets but I hate their guts.

They are rude and purely out for the money so I do put off taking them.

There is another vets in the area but they are worse. When I had my cat he was registered at both vets. I needed to have my cat pts and needed a vet to come out after hours.

Basically they told me to sling my hook because I was registered with the other vets too. But the other vets didn't want to come out because it was a put down job not a treatment job. So my cat went two days waiting for the bank holiday to pass before I could take him in.

So not a good experience. Will have to have a chat with them

What an awful experience for you :(

Do you know anyone else in your area with a dog who might recommend a different vet?

Oh, that is awful. You definitely need to be able to trust your vet and I can understand you not being keen on the available options.

I do not own a car so getting to a different vet is out the question too.

    Will keep you posted

I gather from one of the other threads you have posted that you were looking for an alternative to conventional parasite treatments, have you given the pup any dia earth or garlic? If you have then that could be the possible cause of the vomiting?

    A few thoughts

    Your vet

As far as I am aware, there is no regulation that requires your dog be registered with only one vet. Though I can see the logic with regards to case histories etc. However, vets must behave in a professional manner and if you think this has not been the case, I suggest your lodge a complaint with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

No-one should hate their vet. It is an extraordinary situation to be in. And there are a great many vets in the UK, so it is nearly always possible to find one that you get along with. Your vet should be a friend, someone that you can rely on. Quite aside from that, we all have a legal, never mind moral, responsibility to make sure our pets have access to veterinary care, so you really do need to build a relationship with a local vet. If you have got off on the wrong foot with yours, perhaps you could make an appointment to have a chat about the way forwards?

    Your puppy

This is not normal and should not be put down to the 'heat'. Your puppy needs to see a vet.

As he has been sick every 3 days or so for the last two weeks it would be unlikely that anyone could determine whether or not the advocate was a factor

As Heidrun has mentioned, it might be a good idea to think about what else he has been eating apart from kibble? Could he have got access to any household or garden chemicals for example? Could another member of your family have been feeding him something inappropriate? These are all things that can happen in a busy family.

It is always very worrying when a puppy is unwell, but the very best thing you can do for him, is get him to your vet.

Not given anything but advocate so far as treatment. Gonna keep him just on kibble for a week and see if he improves to try to isolate it.

If he keeps being sick then I will switch to butchers wet for a week and see if he still sick.

whilst that is going on I will chat with the vets and make an appointment >.<
