    Hi all

This is my first post on the forum so hello everyone!

We are soon to take delivery of a (what will be) 9 week old bitch black lab. I am a keen country boy and shooting enthusiast so looking to go down the gun dog route although this is my first dog. The pup is a wedding present and comes from working stock.

The question is, where to start? And even better can anyone recommend a good book? I am thinking about Pippa's book, Getting started - has anyone used that book?

    Thank you kindly.
    Joe

Welcome and congratulations on your new addition!

Yes, I would wholeheartedly recommend Getting Started and the subsequent books :)

btw We will be expecting puppy pictures, it helps us all get our puppy fix without having a million dogs each ;D

    Hi Joe,

Congrats on your new addition! I can't think of a better wedding present. Do you have a name in mind for the pup just yet?

I can thoroughly recommend the articles by Pippa on the main site. Some absolutely invaluable advice on there. So I'm sure the books will be a good investment too.

I promise to get some photos up. The pictures on my iPhone are too big to copy so I will have to transfer them onto PC and reduce file size.

We chose her yesterday, she is 3 weeks at the moment and we called her Milly. We are picking her up after our holidays on 13 Sept! Wish time would hurry up!!

Hi Joe and welcome to the forum. :D Pippa's manual 'The Right Start' is brilliant. Maybe you could get it now and read it while you still have time to spare before the puppy arrives. :D Looking forward to the photos of your little Milly. :D

Joe,congratulations......on your marriage and your puppy, what amazing friends and family you have to gift you a lab...we've got Dexter, yellow 10 month lab,our first dog.Dexter is a field lab but he is a pet so we are working hard to manage our abilities/ lack of experience with his needs ......Pippa's books have been so helpful,I used the Right Start, the stage one gun dog course and total recall, the articles on the main web site are so helpful too.Pippa often chips in on the forum and has answered me personally by email when ive needed it.......the forum members are brilliant too,so you have come to the right place ,for help, advice, info, and support.Hope you can visit Milly lots in the time you are waiting .....
    Best Wishes
    Angela

Hi Joe, congratulations on your wedding and your soon to be new arrival!
What a unique, thoughtful and wonderful wedding present.
(just doesn't compare to a toaster)
I have only used the website and Pippa's Total Recall (although read lots of other books and go to a local trainer). Pippa writes with such clear logic I recommend her to everyone! (and Heidrun ;D )
    Good luck!

Jacqui ( and Lilly 3 year old black girl, dodgy hips, dodgy recall, lover of wildlife )
