I have a 10month old lab. He has been really well behaved (well as good as a young pup can be!) however in the last week he has begun whining when I come home at night from work. He will cry at the door waiting to be let in, I don't let him in till he is at least quiet for a little while (so he isn't getting rewarded for crying). Any suggestions as to why he might be doing this all of a sudden? Sometimes he will even cry whilst he sits at my feet inside!

    Re: Whining

Hi from a fellow whiner-owner :) I expect that when he is inside he whines because he's a bit bored and frustrated and wants to be given something to do. You are right to ignore the whining and to respond only when your dog is quiet. Reward your dog's quietness with some interesting activities - a little session of training or 'find the hidden treats' works well in our house to reward quiet times and keep whining at bay. I suspect that your dog is a smart pup and just wants to be given more to do :)
