Lady likes to sit where she can see out of the window into the street and watch what's going on while I'm hammering away working on the Laptop. As soon as someone appears she leaps up to the window and barks then looks back at me making moany groany noises then barks again. Now if I ignore her, or say no, or good girl to make her stop it has the complete opposite effect and she carries on barking, but if I get up and stand next to her and look out of the window to check the situation out she sort of huffs and puffs and goes back to settle down (usually after sticking her tongue down my ear!) ie job done because he came to assess the situation.

I find this most interesting but it can be a bit disruptive. Is this normal behaviour do you think? It's not actually a problem at all I just find it interesting that she seems to want me to check things out before she will settle again. ;D

:) I cant really pass comment David , because Sam just watches people come to our door and doesnt make a sound !! I know that on the whole , Labs are pretty rubbish at being guard dogs but they do like to know that everything is alright and where it should be ! Sounds like Lady is just happy to have alerted you and then left you to it :)

Riley's similar....he'll bark and want us to check it out. If we don't he honks like a goose for a bit before settling (also the noise he makes when Ben comes home) He's generally pretty quiet though two barks is all you get.
