we have noticed a sweet smell on our 18months old female (Spayed) yellow labradors coat, this seems to have happened over the last few days, we have washed her but it still seems to be there.
The smell does not seem to come from her bottom area

Any ideas please, can we give her anything to enable if she has eaten something that is causing this to neutralise it

Hi and welcome to the forum :) Labradors do have a very distinctive smell about them , but as this has only just been noticed on your girl , my first port of call would be to the Vet , just in case she has picked up an infection or something else to cause the sudden smell . Good luck and let us know please ?

My Labrador seems to have a 'perfumed' coat. However, a sweet smell may be worth a trip to the vet, is it her coat or breath, have you fixed the source definitely?

Have you changed her food? I changed my dog's food which was duck and rice to Salmon and rice, and very quickly she had a very distinctive sweet smell about her!

Hello, and a very warm welcome.

My Labrador smells of, well, Labrador. And mud, usually. Sometimes fox poo or dead fish. Nothing I could ever describe as 'sweet'. Perhaps check her skin carefully, and if anything seems a miss, mention it to your vet.

Interesting question. Pongo has two occasional "smells" that suggest something is wrong.

He sometimes gets scabs on his skin (although since I have been giving him salmon oil they have disappeared completely). If I don't treat them, they can turn into sores. When he has sores, he does give off a sweet-ish smell. It seems to come from all over him rather than just on the sores themselves (although when I get my nose really close I can pin-point it to the sore).

Also, his ears smell when they get infected - but I wouldn't really describe that as "sweet", more sour and yeasty.

I'd suggest checking her all over for any sores on her skin. And yes, a trip to the vet's wouldn't be a bad idea if you can't pinpoint the source.
