Harley came to work with me this afternoon. Myself and a colleague were providing respite for 3 families due to their child's challenging behaviour / additional needs. Anyway, today we started by going to my training school to do agility, so Harley came with us. Harley was even quite in the car the whole way there!! Of course the first few minutes were exciting for Harley as she loves agility. She quickly calmed down as I taught the children how to get her to sit, give paw and touch. We borrowed my trainers dog to also help out. In the arena Harley was amazing with the young people, following their instructions and was very focussed on them rather than me When the trainers dog was in the arena, Harley sat calmly taking treats from the young people following a sit/paw/touch. At one stage I left Harley outside the arena with my colleague to help one of my young people as she was struggling to understand what she had to do. Well, my trainer and I were amazed that Harley sat calmly, taking treats and watching us without jumping around or whining which is what she sometimes does. At the end of the session Harley was exhausted. My OH picked Harley up as my colleague and I took the young people out for tea. When we were waiting for my OH, one of my young people sat next to Harley and they both dozed off on the seat in my car . I'm so proud of Harley and how she relates to young people, especially those with additional needs
Harley you are an extra special girl to be so good for the children. Well done you as well Naya as it's all down to you and your training. You should be proud of yourself as well as Harley
How wonderful! You should be very proud of Harley and you, for all the wonderful training you have given her!
What a good girl. Maybe you should look into certifying Harley for therapy dog work? Sounds like she is a natural.
You are a lovely girl Harley well done I have worked with pre-school special needs children and I know how much they love contact with animals, it's a very special thing xx
