We've just returned from 3 nights at this lovely dog-friendly b&b between Two Bridges and Postbridge, right in the centre of Dartmoor. There was no extra charge for Molly and the owners provided a water bowl, a bowl of dog biscuits (topped up daily) and said they had food if we needed it. The building is an old farm house, completely surrounded by moorland, but also having 3 acres of its own land, in which we were welcome to exercise Molly off-lead. I'd definitely recommend it. We also visited several very dog-friendly pubs in the area - The Plume of Feathers at Princetown (which offers sausages for dogs!), The Burrator Inn at Dowsland and The Mountbatten Pub in Plymouth (offered us a bowl of water and gave Molly a chew stick free). There was also a cafe on the Barbican in Plymouth that welcomed dogs inside, but sadly I can't remember it's name.
Sounds as if Molly had a good time, dog chews, biscuits and sausages. Not bad at all. Hope you enjoyed yourself as well Joy
I love it when it feels like my dog is really welcome (as opposed to just tolerated) - it makes a big difference.
It looks very nice on their website although a little disappointed the they expect you to shut your dog in the car at meal times
Well you can leave them in the room if you have a crate, but I walked Molly before breakfast, gave her a drink and then put her in the car, which was just outside, while we ate. I suppose in summer it might be too hot (though somehow I doubt it!) but while we were there it was only just above freezing first thing. Our room was lovely - comfy bed, armchairs, efficient radiator, very clean and fresh flowers. If I wanted to nit-pick, the water pressure was a bit low in the bathroom. Human breakfast was delicious - wonderful mixed bowls of chopped fresh fruit with yoghurt before the full English. We were told that at this time of year you should keep your dog on a lead because of lambing on the moor. Once I'd reached a spot where I could see for miles and no sheep in sight I did let Molly off a couple of times and there were also 3 enclosed fields without livestock belonging to the b&b for off-lead exercise. We were visiting relatives and old haunts as we used to live in Plymouth, so we were out all day.
Thanks for that Joy. They don't mention a crate option for the room on their site, not that it helps as I don't have one for Juno . We wouldn't leave her in the car in any event as it can't be locked once she is in it otherwise the alarm will go off and it's nearly impossible to disable. I guess I'm still used to the French ways in hotels etc where your dog is welcome at virtually all hotels and they don't seem to worry about dogs left in rooms but then again they don't usually bother about dogs in the restaurant either
