Hello! Firstly thanks to the admins for activating me! I'm excited to learn a lot of things here! This is priest: I just bought him for my partner for his 30th birthday - a dog was something we had discussed for a very long time, and while I have wanted a husky ever since I was little, we agreed that it would be better to start with something a lot more trainable and less high energy. My partner and his family are also long time duck hunters - so it really appealed to me to get a dog that we could take with us. So far, we've had Priest for 5 days now, but to my delight, he was picking up and carrying things around! So first day, I experimented with whatever he picked up - I'd throw it and he'd bring it back to me. The whole inbred retriever stuff really fascinates me, and I am so impressed that a trait is so natural to him. He came careening at me with the previously ignored duck toy on the second day, so I started throwing it and he would bring it back. If I didn't take it, he would follow me around with it and nudge my legs. He also retrieves my shoes for me when I take them off though...and pretty much anything else that takes his fancy. Here is a video of him chasing duckie: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151848827109994&set=vb.652794993&type=2&theater I've been reading through all your gundog articles and will try to follow them very closely in his training! Apart from the fetching so far, we do have problems with him responding to his name (though not so much as before). Also, he will sit and come etc if he knows its a training session, but outside of that you just cant always get his attention so he will do it, even if hes standing by you and following you around. He does walk on a lead ok, and around the house and in the garden he is off the lead. The major problem, though it is getting better, is getting him to stop crying when hes crated or just not getting his way, though we are careful to ignore him until he is quiet. He seems to be getting better at toileting outside, though I'm really not sure if that's just that we are getting more clued onto it!!! Thank you for reading, and any advice is very welcome!

Re: Priest the gundog (to be, hopefully!) Awww cutie! Welcome from me and 11 week old Murphy. I felt like I couldnt go out for nearly 2 weeks after getting him because he cried in his crate, we put our clothes in there so he could smell us and it just seemed to get better.
Re: Priest the gundog (to be, hopefully!) What a sweetie ! I think a crate is better than a plant pot He may just take a little while to learn that crying doesn't get what he wants - he's still a baby. Be consistent and he'll learn I'm sure !
