This girl in the pink harness is Fern. Fern has an angel for an owner. A friend of angelic woman was doing some work on a farm, and was asked to shoot a dog. He very much did not want to, and when he saw the dog he asked whether he could just take it away, which was fine – so long as they got rid. Fern had been a working dog, become gun shy, and then had puppies. After that, she had been completely neglected. This kind man turned up on Fern’s owner’s doorstep and asked her what to do? So angelic woman said, well, let’s make her comfy as a start and then we’ll have a think. Fern got washed first, as she had been confined to a small space (of course not cleaned out – ever) and then it was obvious something was wrong with her when she screamed as she was towelled off. Angelic woman rushed Fern to the vet. The vet said Fern had a terrible case of mastitis caused by being neglected after the puppies were taken away. Angelic woman paid for Fern’s initial treatment, antibiotics etc. and took her home to give her a meal and a warm comfy bed for the night. Anyway, Fern got on so well with the other dogs, and the family, that she got to stay permanently. I’m not surprised as she is adorable. Fern wants nothing more in the world but to fetch things from water. Angelic woman doesn’t carry balls and safestix on walks because her other dogs are a pain with them. Luckily, Charlie is always happy to share his toys with Fern. So Fern gets to fetch Charlie’s rattle ball out of water, showing Charlie how it’s done, and Charlie follows her around, going a little deeper into the water each time. Bless this woman, she already had 2 other rescue dogs when Fern turned up! But so lovely that Fern found a loving home – landed on her feet, I reckon. Charlie & Fern by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr

Re: Fern and angelic woman Helen, Fern is a spaniel - although whether a cross or not I don't know. She is absolutely soaking in the photo, so her ears are all flat. She is a lovely thing.
Re: Fern and angelic woman What a terribly sad story - though with a happy ending for Fern. Dare one ask what happened to the puppies????? :-\
Re: Fern and angelic woman Probably best not. :'( Poor little mites - and poor little Fern. Sounds a bit like where we rescued Bella from - will write more about her story on the cross-breed discussion thread.
