We've just returned from deepest darkest Devon and for once the dogs came with us! Hurricane Katie made life a little wild at the beginning and two muddy dogs was hard work in my in-laws very nice holiday lodge! Added to that Obi's utter hatred for being left in his travel crate and his development of escapologist skills in conjunction with being irritatingly noisy overnight it was looking like it was going to be an exhausting holiday coupled with impending divorce! However being unable to leave the dogs at home meant I had to suck it up and take them with us - eek!!!!! In the main though they totally redeemed themselves They went on small ferries, beaches and walked through busy towns. They even settled down under a table when we had lunch out!!! Obi pulled horrendously, which was to be expected, but he stole no icecreams, football's or picnics. It was slightly nerve wracking but overall I was pretty pleased with how it all turned out. Some serious crate training is needed and the heelwork / loose lead walking will never end but it could have been so much worse
Yes of course wrangling two dogs and a three year old on a beach in Salcombe at Easter holidays leaves at least two hands free for photos
Glad you had a good time. I don't think, dogs, children and relaxing ever belong in the same sentence
At least you weren't in a tent I have only been on holiday once with my dogs, German Pointers and it was the best holiday of my life!
We have been camping with them at CLA when they were crated in the tent and we had long lines and screws when we were outside. That worked really well. I shared a small tent with them both when we saw you at Claire's. They pretty much decided I'd brought my pillow to be their bed and sat on my head a lot
Since I got Charlie, I have never had a holiday without him! I've been away on business, but that's all. Mind, my OH does the vast amount of Charlie care on holiday. They really just want to get rid of me so they can cause chaos on the beach and chew up balls.
I've promised OH that we can have two one week holidays a year without the dogs. It means we focus on doing things with Lizzie that you just can't do with pups.
Oh well. She'll be a teenager soon and won't want to come on holiday with you! Best enjoy it while you can.....
Yup she still likes me at the moment......unless I try and make her get dressed or eat stuff she doesn't want to
I can imagine there were a few hairy times ,it's a busy combination dogs and young children but I've seen you do it and you do it very well,to the onlooker you always appear clam....even if you are treading water furiously! It's my great ambition,to holiday with Dexter,I hate leaving him at home...we've actually come home early from 4 holidays since we've had him....mostly at my Husband's suggestion ( but you know,I kind if subliminally start the process ) now the possibility of this could become a reality,a bit of anxiety has crept in......ah it'll be fine..... Quite interested in those screws you used at CLA Barbara? We may need a solution to keep Dexter secure in an insecure garden ... I can't guarantee the doors will always get closed properly by visitors ....I fear he might have to be lashed to a supporting beam with a bungee cord ....
I think Barbara might have meant this kind of thing? http://www.sportingsaint.co.uk/product/755/category/226 I'm not sure if they'd hold up to a determined Lab, if he wasn't trained to stay by it? I guess it depends what it's being screwed into.
