The Breed Health Sub-Committee has set up a Facebook page to communicate about and comment on the areas it covers. It is hoped that this group will be able to highlight issues which need further information gathered and new developments within the breed with regard to health.

Yes, that's a genuinely positive move. Let's ask some questions but also give them some positive encouragement! (C&T for setting up the FB page....)

I asked what info they would be posting etc - and got a polite reply telling me to feed in any comments via my local breed club. Which isn't a great deal of help, since there isn't such a club close to me. And it's quite a big barrier to say someone has to find a club in order to be involved in really quite important representations to the Kennel Club. So while I do understand that really they might want to set this up as a closed group (actually, I really, really understand and appreciate this, given the general dangers of open groups on facebook!) it doesn't really look like an opportunity for us 'normal' Lab owners to get involved.

I thought I'd hang round though, being very supportive, and seeing whether they are up for hearing from some owners time to time...you never know....

It certainly seems to be to disseminate information out primarily.

Yes, that's fair enough. Seems a shame that there isn't more of an opportunity to comment - perhaps we should be looking to the kennel club for that though. After all, transparency and all that....I'll have a look how the Kennel Club works...(when I get time!).
