My seven week old black lab jumped out of my adult daughters arms and landed on all fours. He walked but was holding his right leg up at times. Immediately took him to vet and they are questioning a hairline femur fracture. Told us not to worry that within two weeks he would be back to himself. He is a wonderful dog. Crated at night gets us up twice at night. He's playful in spurts and then rests. Today which is 4 days he has begun weight bearing and we are obviously being extraordinarily careful. Anyone else have experience with this?

I bet your poor daughter feels awful! Pups are so wriggly and accidents do happen, I remember dropping Lucan when he was a small pup too, luckily he was ok.

Hope your pup heals quickly. x

I have no experience, sorry. Hopefully someone will be along that does...has he got a splint on it or something like that?

My daughter was sobbing. No splint. The vet says he will rehab himself starting to slowly weight bear and regain total use. Today is a great day he seems so much better and is weight bearing more and more. Hard to believe they can do their own physical therapy

Glad it's not too serious... Young animals do heal fast from fractures.

Your poor daughter, she must feel terrible, but it was a freaky accident, they happen. No experience in dogs but I had one myself in my, wait, gotta look up human leg bones.....Fibula, the outside, smaller, lower long one. Maybe an adult human fibula is about the same diameter as a puppy femur? Anyway, same advice from my Doctor, no splint, not even a bandage, stay off it as much as possible. It really hurt when it happened because the flesh swelled up massively. All the hair on that part of the leg fell out. And now there is a noticeable dent in that leg.

Poor puppy - and your poor daughter too. These things happen so quickly, but it sounds as if his leg's healing already.
